Primrose Everdeen - The Hunger Games Wiki. Primrose Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen is the main protagonist and the narrator. Katniss believes the firebomb that killed Prim and the Capital children. I just want you to come home. You'll try, won't you? Unlike her sister in many ways, Prim was the opposite of Katniss in both looks and character; having blonde hair like their mother, a gentle personality (unlike Katniss' prickly one) and a talent for healing, as opposed to Katniss' talent for hunting. Despite this, they are very devoted to each other. She also had a cat named Buttercup, and a goat named Lady. Katniss cares about Prim above anything else in the world, and when Prim is killed in Mockingjay she is devastated to the point that she loses her voice temporarily. Several months later, Peeta Mellark plants primroses in front of Katniss' house in memory of Prim. Katniss, her older sister, bought the goat and gave it to Prim on her tenth birthday after having shot and sold a young buck in the woods with Gale Hawthorne. What happens at the end of the Hunger Games Trilogy?Having so much money, they first thought to get Prim a hairbrush or cloth for a dress, but decided instead to buy a goat that had been injured. The goat could easily have died, making the spent money a waste, but Prim and her mother healed it with home remedies. The sustenance provided by the goat helped Prim and her family to survive in the poor region of District 1. Seam. Later, after Katniss escaped from the Quarter Quell, she turned out to be a very skilled doctor while living in District 1. During the war, she would work with her mother in the hospital and then go out to help the injured in the midst of battle. She saved a stray cat (whom Katniss tried to drown the second Prim brought him home) and named him Buttercup, insisting his muddy yellow coat matched the bright flower. Because of her love for animals, when Katniss once took her out in the woods beyond District 1. Prim broke down in tears and wanted to help the dying animal. Katniss noted that she never appeared to be fazed by wounds or nudity, even though she was . She explains that when alarms sounded in their school after the mining incident occurred, she went to Prim's classroom and found her waiting for her. The only other known event of her early life was mentioned in Mockingjay, as Katniss recalls when her father was singing . Katniss volunteered to take Prim's place, to Prim's horror. She had not allowed Prim to take any tesserae and did everything she could to prevent Prim being thrown into the 7. Hunger Games, as she knew her little sister would not have lasted long in the competition, but in the end she was reaped. Prim tried to stop Katniss, but Gale Hawthorne held her back and carried her away as she yelled ! Prim watched the Games with her mother and hoped Katniss would survive. With some help from Peeta Mellark, her fellow District 1. Rue, a twelve year old District 1. In the film Katniss gives Prim the mockingjay pin she got from Madge, the mayor's daughter, but when Katniss volunteers for the Games Prim gives it back to her for good luck. Prim continued to go to school and lived in her new house in the Victor's Village with her mother and Katniss. Prim was one of the people President Snow threatened to kill if Katniss didn't prove that she was insanely in love with Peeta and that the suicide threat was an act Prim being held back, yelling for Katniss. Katniss kept her mother and Prim out of her issues between her and Snow. When Katniss is about to give up and let things happen with Snow in control, she thinks of Prim which gives her the strength to go on. When Gale is whipped, along with Katniss having an injury from blocking a lash of it, Prim and her mother treat Gale and Katniss' injuries. The Capitol had arranged for a showy wedding to Peeta, complete with a contest to decide her wedding dress, decided by voting residents of the Capitol. When the Hunger Games begin. Katniss’s signature outfit, as worn by Jennifer Lawrence. This costume was also worn in a deleted scene in which Gale teaches Prim how to hunt. Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games, a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death. The 12 Craziest Things to Expect in the Last Hunger Games Movie; Email. Vanity Fair Worldwide: United Kingdom; Italy; Mexico; Spain. Prim's funeral told in Katniss's point of view. I should also mention that I don't think Gale killed Prim. Between this time I made small talk with Posy about anything but war or hunger games. Prim makes Katniss promise not to try on any dresses Prim and her sister Katniss. When she arrived home she helped Katniss with her dresses and kept Katniss calm since she doesn't like this type of thing. After she was reaped, Katniss wasn't able to say goodbye to Prim because of a new procedure. When District 1. 2 is bombed, Gale saves Prim and her mother. She lived in District 1. Buttercup in Compartment E for most of the book. Like before, Katniss was always trying to protect her. Prim surprised Katniss with how mature and strong- willed she had grown. When Katniss is challenged by the idea of being the Mockingjay, Prim wakes up from her sleep and asked her what she will do, and telling her that she knows how much her mother can hear. Prim told her what she would do if Katniss had to become the Mockingjay, and promises to keep this a secret from their mother before going back to sleep with Buttercup. At this moment, Katniss realized that the little girl who she had volunteered for at the reaping was gone. Prim dreamed of becoming a doctor and showed her proficiency at healing as she helped the injured during her time in District 1. Gale went to check the Everdeen family compartment to make sure it was clear and found Prim with Buttercup. Everdeen leaves to the first aid station, Prim and Katniss bond together. Prim relays to Katniss the information she was taught during orientation for new citizens and surmises that it was probably just a bunker missile. She visits Katniss in the Hospital after Peeta strangled her. Katniss only notices Prim when she sees her plait down her back and her untucked shirt at the back, just as it was on the day of the reaping. Katniss also notices Prim giving her coat to a small child. Before Katniss can reach her and bring her to safety, the second. Prim sees Katniss seconds before the secondary explosion. Prim and other medics and badly burning Katniss. Prim's last word ever in the book is Katniss. Katniss becomes so unhinged after Prim's death that she loses her voice for several days. It is easy to see that Katniss deeply cared for her sister. She later realizes, after a conversation with the imprisoned President Snow, that President Alma Coin sent Prim to her death (which was caused by a hovercraft with Capitol insignias that was actually used by the rebels) both to sway the Capitol citizens to Coin's side by making them think Snow was bombing the children, and to swing Katniss to her side through the death of her sister, as Katniss disliked Coin and was a threat to her power base. Katniss also realizes that, even though Gale had nothing directly to do with Prim's death, the bombing trap that killed her was based on one of his designs, which makes both him and Katniss feel he is somewhat responsible. She avenges her sister by shooting President Coin when she is supposed to publicly execute President Snow. Prim had fair skin, blond hair and blue eyes (however, in the film, they are hazel), unlike the majority of the residents of the Seam in District 1. She had a small stature, partly due to being underfed for the majority of her life. Katniss describes her as having a face . This duck tail was how Katniss could identify her while she was assisting the injured Capitol children. There’s something else there as well, something entirely her own. An ability to look into the confusing mess of life and see things for what they are. She has a pet goat, Lady, that Katniss gave her as well as a gruesome, ugly cat she named Buttercup. Starving and swarming with parasites, Prim brought the wretched creature home one day. Katniss intended to drown him, but Prim begged so hard for Katniss to let him live that she decided to allow the cat to stay. She, like her mother, has a passion and talent for healing. Prim stayed at her mother's side even during the most horrid cases, even though she was . An old goat herder had a sick nanny goat, mauled by a dog, the wound swollen with infections, and after much haggling and bargaining, Katniss bought the goat and a pink ribbon for her neck. Upon presenting the weak, near- dead nanny to Prim, medical attention was given to her immediately. Eventually, Lady healed well. Though purchasing the goat on a whim, Katniss does not regret her decision, for Lady pays her stay well with goat's milk and cheese to eat and to sell. Lady died in the bombings of District 1. Buttercup managed to survive, much to Katniss's disappointment. In Mockingjay, she even gives Katniss the idea to require District 1. President Coin to agree to some things Katniss wants, in order for Katniss to be the Mockingjay. She is very delicate, as Katniss said, . She also braided her motionless mother's hair every morning before she went to school. Everdeen and Gale after the reaping. Family. Prim is the youngest of the Everdeen family; her sister is Katniss. Everdeen, died in a mine explosion four years before, leaving her mother, sister, and herself alone. The three of them lived in the Seam with Lady, Prim's goat, and Buttercup. I wish I looked like you, little duck. Katniss stated that Prim was the only one she was sure she loved. She worked very hard to keep Prim alive and happy, hunting for food, selling, and trading at . Katniss once wanted to give Prim a gift for her birthday even though she had no money to spend, but bargained for a goat which Prim later named Lady. Katniss even tolerated her sister's ugly cat she found and kept as a pet named Buttercup. Katniss was very protective of Prim and planned and did everything to make sure Prim wouldn't have to take tesserae so she would have a better chance of never being reaped into the Hunger Games. This backfired when Prim was reaped to participate in the 7. Hunger Games. Katniss was willing to die for Prim and volunteered for her. Prim tried to stop Katniss since she knew she would most likely not survive the horror of the Games; but Gale Hawthorne held her back. Katniss' bravery was strong in this part. In Catching Fire, Katniss tried her best to protect Prim from President Snow. She reminded herself Prim is the reason why she must go on. In , Katniss and Prim's relationship grew much deeper and the two become closer than ever when Katniss struggled with her fear for Peeta's safety while he was being held at the Capitol. The Hunger Games - monicakimcvoro. Part 1 Questions. The story is set in the future, so when Katniss references her ancestors, she is referring to us. What has happened to North America? How might we have contributed to the destruction of it? We might have contributed to the destruction of it because of all of the energy we are using, food we are wasting, the lazier we are getting, and pollution we are making. Gale makes the comment that the Capitol wants the districts to be divided, that it is to their advantage. What does he mean by this? Katniss lives in the “Seam” of district 1. Why do you think it is named the “Seam”? What is a seam and how might it apply to her neighborhood? Would you volunteer for your little sister (or brother, or older sibling, or friend)? What does it tell you about Katniss? It tells us about Katniss that she loves her little sister so much and is the closest thing to her, and that she is very protective of her. Why couldn’t Katniss’s mother take care of Katniss or her sister Prim? If they lived somewhere other than the Seam, would things have been different for her mother? If they lived somewhere else, and her mother was still working then she might be able to take care of them. How do you feel about the victors of the Hunger Games earning free food for their fellow citizens? What problems might arise? Why doesn’t Katniss want to get close to any of the tributes, including Peeta? She doesn’t want to kill any of her friends. Why is it ironic that Effie calls district 1. Do you think it is merely coincidence that the red- headed Avox girl is serving the district 1. Could it be possible that the Capitol knows Katniss was in the woods that day? Compare the modern conveniences in the Capitol with the primitive living conditions of District 1. Why the stark contrast between the two? What other differences do you see between the Capitol and District 1. How would you respond to Katniss’s private session if you were a Gamemaker? Why does Haymitch have difficulty coaching Katniss for her interview? How would you coach her if you were him? I would her in the way Haymitch did, by telling her to relax, be herself, and what she needs to make up, and I like the way how he is hard on her to try and make her change and get it into her head of what she needs to do. Describe Caesar Flickerman. Does he remind you of any current TV personalities or talk show hosts? He is very entertaining and makes you happy. He sort of reminds me of Australia’s Got Talent host- Grant Denyer because he is entertaining, a great host, likes to be friends with people, helps people out, and is nice to everyone. What do you think Peeta’s motivation is with his announcement at the end of part 1? Part 2 & 3 Questions. Peeta says that he doesn’t want to lose himself once the Games begin and that he wants to prove he’s not just a “piece in their Games.” What does he mean by this? He also wants to give the audience a show and maybe attract sponsors. What is the purpose of a district token? Can you think of any events in real life where people might bring a token with them? In real life someone might bring a token with them if they are having an operation, going to war, going on a holiday, having to leave home and start a new life. How will the Capitol and audience be able to locate the tributes in the arena? What does this remind you of? This reminds me of a GPS, and also microchips in pets. How do you feel about Capitol residents touring the past arenas? How does it make Katniss feel? Can you think of places that people vacation to that might be similar to the Hunger Games arenas? Why do people visit them? Are we any different than the Capitol residents in this regard? Would you join an alliance or play the game on your own? Where are the cameras? They aren’t visible to Katniss, therefore they aren’t visible to the readers. Where do you think they are hidden? Or are they so high- tech that they are invisible? I also think that they are so high tech that they could be invisible, otherwise just very small. Part II questions, continued 7. What is the Capitol’s attitude about living things? Even towards the mutations because they don’t care about them as if its no big deal, and chuck them in hungry, in the cold, to die. It says about the Capitol that they are selfish and don’t care about many other people other than themselves. Peeta aligns with the Careers and Katniss eventually aligns with Rue. How do the conditions in District 1. District 1. 2? Explain District 1. Why doesn’t the Capitol want the viewers to learn about the other districts? How does it benefit the Capitol? This benefits the Capitol because otherwise they would be educated to question the capitol about the games. Why does Rue like mockingjays? Why does Katniss like mockingjays? How are the two girls similar to the bird? She is like a mockingjay because she jumps from tree to tree, is small, and she loves music and loves to sing. She is like a mockingjay because she used to like music and likes the bird. Part II questions, continued 1. Describe the Careers’ survival skills. In what ways are they superior to Katniss’s and the other tributes? In what ways are they lacking? If they lose their supplies, or they run out, they won’t last long. What does the word “rue” mean? Katniss didn’t like killing the boy from district 1 even know that’s what she was supposed to do, and sort of regrets it. If Katniss had given Rue her knife when they separated, would things have turned out differently for Rue? Analyze the meadow song Katniss sings to Rue. She says it’s often sung to crying babies (think about “Rock- a- bye, Baby” or other lullabies). How does the song fit the moment? How does it relate to Rue? The lullaby promises better days and that’s a good thing for Rue since she lived in the poor district of district 1. Part III Questions 1. Katniss’s first reaction when she hears the news about the rule change is to call out Peeta’s name, despite the dangers of alerting the tributes to her presence. Katniss is constantly thinking about how the audience is perceiving her, whereas Peeta (we think, anyway) just says what he feels. But Peeta doesn’t have to think about it because he just tells the truth because he doesn’t have anything to hide, and what he says is the right thing to say. Why is Katniss willing to go to the feast to get the medicine for Peeta? In order to go to the feast, Katniss must drug Peeta. Of course, we know it’s never a good idea to drug your friends. Does it make that act morally acceptable? I think it is an exception because this is the Hunger Games and if Katniss didn’t drug Peeta to go get the thing they need, then he most likely would’ve died and he wouldn’t let her go without him risking his life to go as well. It still doesn’t make the act morally acceptable because this time it was only for a good cause and not to use something against him that he will regret. Further discuss the moral dilemma Katniss faces with saving Peeta’s life with the phrase: “The end justifies the means.” She reasons that the means to get the medicine (knocking Peeta out) justifies the end result (saving his life). How do we use this reasoning in real life? Do lawmakers/politicians make decisions based on this? Yes, for example policemen will speed during a police chase to catch a criminal (doing a risky thing for a good cause) Part III questions, continued 6. Discuss the issue of “paybacks.” List examples of characters who feel as though they owed another character something. Why do you think some characters (like Katniss and Thresh) feel as though they “owe” someone for kindness, and others (like Peeta) never expect “payment” for their kindness shown. Though Peeta never expects payment for their kindness shown because he truly loves Katniss and would do anything for her to keep her alive. Katniss wonders if her family will stay at home to watch the feast or go to the town square, where it will be broadcast and certainly school will be canceled so people can view it live. Where do you think her mother and sister will watch it? What sort of events do we cancel school for or have a holiday break? Does this reflect our community’s priorities? It says about their society that it is not only mandatory viewing of cancelling school for because this happens once a year and you have to watch it. We cancel school or have holiday breaks, for Easter, Australia Day, the Queen’s birthday, New Years, Christmas, etc. What psychological impact could the wolf mutts have on a tribute? Is this worse than the physical threat? I don’t think this is worse than the physical threat though because they can kill quickly and viciously. Why does Katniss wait so long to kill Cato? She feels relieved when she kills him because that means Peeta and her win the Hunger Games and they put him out of pain by killing him from the wild dogs instead. Part III questions, continued 1. Right before the rule change is announced Katniss is looking around for a stick for Peeta’s tourniquet and finds her arrow instead (page 3. We know why Katniss picks up the arrow, but the audience does not hear her thought process. From their viewpoint, what might it look like instead? Katniss’s first reaction to the second rule change (which revokes the first rule change) is to shoot Peeta when she sees his hand grabbing the knife. Do you think she could really kill him, as she almost did? Why is the moment with the berries an act of rebellion against the Capitol? It also proves that they shouldn’t be so selfish how they only want one winner and they don’t want to be the victor of the head of the hunger games. How we behave when we are placed into uncomfortable or terrible situations says a lot about our character. Which tributes showed humanity toward others, showed they had good character, in the arena? Which tributes gave in to cruelty and went along with the inhumanity of the Games? How did they show their true colors? Whereas Cato and the rest of the career group wanted to go with the whole hunger games style and go out to kill everybody.

Recently, we took a tour of some beautiful neighborhoods and homes in the south. This house, located not far from my home, was included in that tour. Each time I drive by it, I’m always reminded of a famous movie home we all know and love. Do you know the one I’m thinking about? Yep, it’s this one! It’s the house from the movie, Father of the Bride. I’m happy to say this much- loved movie house is a real house and not a just a movie set. I hadn’t realized it, but Father of the Bride is actually a remake of a 1. Spencer Tracey classic by the same name. Did you know that?
What is it about this house that captures our hearts? It just says home, doesn’t it? I love the white picket fence, the vines/flowers growing up the front and the cute dormers lined up along the top. Many years ago, I read an article in a magazine where they interviewed a young couple who bought this house in real life when it became available a few years after the making of the movie. They had some pretty wild stories to tell about folks walking right up to their door, ringing the bell and asking for a tour. One of the things they said that really stuck with me was that some of what we saw in the movie was constructed just for the movie, like the white picket fence. Rowan Atkinson Father Of The Bride Speech - Watch the video and have some laugh while you search for information on father of the bride speeches. In the interview, the couple said the fence was just barely standing up and about ready to fall over any second. It had not been installed/built the way a real fence would have been so they had to pay to have it taken down and replaced with a real fence. I remember there were also some things in the kitchen that had to be redone. They spent a fair amount getting the house back to real livable conditions, as I recall. Now, in case you somehow managed to accidentally stow away on a space ship just minutes before it blasted off to the moon in 1. George can’t think of what life would be like without Annie and becomes determined to make the upcoming ceremony as inconvenient as possible (especially when he finds out the wedding will cost him $2. Nina (Diane Keaton), tries to make him happy for Annie. When the wedding takes place at their home, along with an eccentric wedding planner named Franck (Martin Short) taking over the ceremony, George tries to handle the fact that Annie has grown up and has a life of her own.”Do you remember this scene from the movie? A freak snow storm hits the day of Annie’s wedding. Of course, the snow is just pretend snow since this home is located at 8. S. El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, California. Let’s go inside and take a little tour of this famous movie house. I’ve always loved the built- in cabinetry in this room. This is the same look I am going for in a room in my home that I’m hoping to one day turn into a library. You can see the vintage shelving I found for my “someday library” in THIS post. It looks almost exactly like the shelving shown here, doesn’t it? I hope to bump my fireplace out from the wall like they have done here, too. Here’s how the room looks when it’s redone for Annie’s wedding. We get a view of the other side of the room in this scene where Annie (Kimberly Williams- Paisley) is introducing her fiance, Bryan (George Newbern) to her parents Nina and George Banks played by Diane Keaton and Steve Martin. The rooms in these old homes are so nice and large, you can pull the furniture to the center, add sofa tables behind the sofas and still have plenty of room for chairs and for walking around behind the sofas. Love that! We never get a great shot of this wonderful grandfather clock, but it adds so much to this otherwise very neutral interior. Doesn’t it look Swedish or Danish? It reminds me of a Mora clock but it doesn’t quite have the “pot belly” proportions of the Mora. Ummm, anyone know the origins of a clock like this? It’s not really a Bornholm clock like I have HERE in my upstairs family room. A glimpse into the dining room. The lighting throughout this movie is so warm and cozy. I really love the heavy wainscoting in the entrance. So pretty! The dining room leads us into the kitchen. You have to admit, this does look just like a real, working kitchen. Personally, there’s a little too much “stuff” in this room for me, but it does feel like a real home. It’s amazing how quickly a kitchen can get cluttered in real life. How do you like the pot rack? We get another view of it in a sec. I like the glass front cabinets with the lighting inside. When I had the centers of my kitchen cabinets cut out and installed glass in them, I really wanted that “window pane” look like we see here. But that just wasn’t going to happen since I was DIM (doing it myself). I’ve seen them on several home tours, but usually they are a bit darker. Interesting how things just cycle right back around again, isn’t it? Another view of the pot rack in the distance as Annie and her parents gather in the breakfast/eating area of the kitchen. This house has a back stairway and we get a glimpse of it on the right side of this scene. One more view looking across the kitchen into the dining room of the home. I love the various sets of French doors we see throughout the home. So, what do you think that room is in the background? Ummm, wonder if I was subliminally influenced to put a cuckoo clock in my kitchen because of this movie. Love this gorgeous leaded- glass window on the staircase! A view of the upstairs hallway as George talks with his son, Matty, played by Keran Culkin. While watching the movie, I was thinking how much Matty reminded me of another “child actor” in another favorite movie house movie. Yep, I’m talking about Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone. Wonder if that’s wallpaper or just a faux wall treatment. Ragging and sponging were pretty big back around the time this movie was made. Are folks still doing that? I never hear much about it anymore. George goes into Annie’s room to console her (and talk some sense into her) after she and Bryan have a huge disagreement. Somehow the romantic iron bed just fits with the name Annie, doesn’t it? Annie is an architecture student, so as you might expect, she has a drafting table in her bedroom. We get a brief view of one of the bathrooms here with the “wedding swans” floating in the tub. The unexpected snow storm has made it too cold for them to be outdoors. I love it when movies include an attic scene. I don’t know what it is about attics, but (to me) they always seem to add a little mystery and nostalgia to a movie. Maybe it’s all those Nancy Drew Mystery Stories like The Secret in the Old Attic, I read growing up. The wedding actually takes place in the backyard of this home at 5. North Almansor Street in Alhambra, CA. The home has just gone on the market recently. You can read about it in this post where you’ll find a link in to the real estate listing: For Sale: Father of the Bride Movie House. The wedding takes place underneath a wonderful pergola built just for the movie. Isn’t this just the sweetest scene? Notice how Annie and Bryan are silhouetted against the huge photographer’s light. So romantic! In the scenes where Annie and her dad are playing basketball, this same house is used, again. And in this back deck scene, too. Here’s how it looks in the daytime. I wonder what the backyard looked like for the Molino Avenue house where all the interior scenes were shot. Perhaps it wasn’t large enough for a wedding. So interesting that they used two houses for the making of The Father of the Bride isn’t it? Why do you think this house captured the hearts of so many? Was it the storyline of the movie or the actual design of the house itself? Or, maybe it was both? Was this a favorite movie house of yours?
